Drab Chimney Makes Old Home Look Even Older
A faded orange brick chimney and fireplace surround really dated this otherwise charming 1940s bungalow, and it looked increasingly dated each time one of the neighbors did major upgrades. So our Washington, IL clients decided they wanted an upgrade of their own.
Our Solution: Cultured Stone Veneer
We overlaid and installed new Prestige brand cultured stone veneer to the full chimney outdoors and the visible portion of the chimney and fireplace surround inside. The upgrade required several steps. First, we sealed and plastered all of the existing brick work. But before we could install the veneer, we had to add a flagstone coping to point in the slanted edges, visible in the exterior BEFORE image. After the veneer was installed on the chimney and fireplace surround, we applied a construction grade water-repelling sealer.
Many of the neighbors came out to admire our handiwork. They said this chimney and fireplace remodel changed the appearance of the entire house. The contemporary look puts the value of this home in the top 5% of the neighborhood.
